| I think what Delfi was trying to say (and Needles wasn't saying, in his usual helpful style), is that the lighting styles between gta and gta2 vary.
Actually that's not true I suppose, but user cars for GTA tend to be lit from a point source in the bottom left of the image, just like yours. This works ok in GTA, where the in game lighting is muted and the graphics can control the feel more.
However in GTA2 there is very strong lighting in the game, and the whole atmosphere is controled in there, rather than by the graphics. As such people making add on cars have tended to stick more with the original GTA2 style of shading.
This is lit directly from above (think of it as noon on a summers day). There is no white on the highlights, only a brighter, slightly less saturated version of the original colour.
What I'd suggest is using what you have so far as a GTA car, then have a go from scratch on the lighting, using the same shape and details. That's how I've done the few GTA2 cars I attempted. I sort of finished the GTA version, then drew over the top to get rid of the point sourced lighting and started from the middle.
The shape of what you have is good, looks a little flat around the rear end though. That comes from not having enough tones in your colour. Looking at the rear left quarter, the highlight you have on the very left edge is bright and well placed, but numerically speaking, it's pretty much the same colour as the less highlighted part next to the rear window. What this means is the eye reads that whole section as flat. But it's not, there's a distinctive curve to the whole section there. Similarly the lights would be darker at the back than the front, since they slope down towards the rear. I also don't think the pointy bit in the middle is big enough, since it holds the cars 45 exhausts (well 4, but still.) :)
For what it's worth I only mention these because I think the car looks pretty good. If it was shite I wouldn't bother offer critique, it'd just be a waste of both our time ;) ------------------ azz.gouranga.com est. 1998 (I am oldskoolier than joo) |
