Back on the modeling trip, with another Neural concept car, still very early stage:

It doesn't really look good right now, as I haven't done anything on the normals yet and I'm still experimenting with the shape, but you can see where it's heading to. The concept is an FR transaxle GT style car. The old Neural wheels are just there for experimenting reasons, they're gonna be replaced. Polycount is 1300 right now.

Nice shape going there... I must get back to the Lada, but college is overloading me. Grr. I'll do it, not much to do anyway.

Just thinking wheel wise... what about something really sharp and edgey for it? Like a blade design?

Looking good.

Do you do all your modelling in zmod, Frag? I'm still having issues getting smooth normals, I think I'm destined to never make a smooth looking car. Damnit.

yes, everything in Zmod...normals can be quite an ass to do there...it's always quite a lot of work to get them right, mainly detaching parts, reuniting some vertices, and recalculating, but it works quite good,as you can see on my other cars, I haven't done anything on the normals of this one, I want the get the shape finished first. Cars with a rather clean mesh in flat shading mode need quite less normal work in Zmod.

Hmmm, the front is quite Ford GT reminiscent...

That's exactly what I thought... the rear kinda reminds me of a corvette too. :D

Some more pics, fitted some backlights, adjusted some normals and added a bit of colour, sideskirts and the back diffusor.

I think the bonnet ridge is far too sharp; it seems to meet the bonnet with just a single atom.

The windscreen seems to curve too far back.  An enourmous amount of bodywork will need to move with the door to allow the player inside.  I don't think the windscreen should go right out to the edge of the vehicle because it makes the front area far too big for an exotic vehicle.  The windscreen seems to go too high.  It's not in proportion to the rest of the car, imho.

I really like the nose, the front fenders and the swoopy sides.   Reminds me a lot of the 1967 Corvette Stingray I set up for GTAVC ages ago. smile

A bit like the Lotus Elise's headlights...

Restyled headlights:

I first tried something Lotus Elise style, but they somehow didn't really fit the car, so I tried this instead.

You're right on that one, I increased the size of the roof to make it a bit less high. I'm also not sure if I'll do the big Neural style gullwing doors again or if I should seperate the two big glasses into a moving and a fixed part each.

EDIT: lol, just realized that this was my 1337th post.

Just 1 idea - to make the shape nicer, you could move the arch of the wheel arch at the back forward a little. Keep the lines more parallel. Also, I feel you can make more use of the whole split windscreen theme. You can do some really awesome things with it. Check out the GTA1 Neurals to get ideas if you want. I like eccentuating the rear arch shape with the window as shown in my pic. I also smoothed the corner between window and the front pillar. Make it a little faster looking. Now, I don't know how easy that is to do in your 3d program but it's just an idea. I love what you did with the bonnet. My preference wuold have it sharper around the sides - I have this idea in my head - but I think that's probably way too hard to model. is there anything you can do with the great big square holes inthe bumper? Really lets the car down atm imo

And you know what would be cool? If the rear glass went down to the front of the spoiler, and there was just a grille kinda thing on the back between the spoiler and body - like on your previous neurals. Keep another design element.. Well, it might look good.. just that from here it seems as though the rear glass will have to be awfully steep to join with the body. Hmmm, I guess it's probably front engined too. So the grille thing would be pointless. COuld do glass a la CRX, or just dismiss my idea all together :D

OK, enough ! Hope you understand what I meant.

wow...so many constructive ideas, thanks for that, Alfa, and for the effort of making a photoshop pic. I tried to take into consideration what you said, it now looks like this, and I'm quite happy with it:

My original thought was to fit the Neuralite "N" grille into the center hole and standard grills into the left and right, so that you can see the radiators behind. But the holes seem to lack a bit of aggression right now, I've got to think about them a bit longer.
I guess it's the changed headlights that make them seem out of place, the holes fit the style of the GT40ish headlights better.

Perhaps using a wider "snout" on the bonnet would improve the design?  The Panoz Esperante has something better, imho.  There isn't really space in your car for a decent size of engine in the front because the intakes are so far back. smile

Because you have those big intakes on top of the bonnet, you don't really need any in the front bumper.  You could drop the nose down lower, a bit like the Panoz does?

Perhaps using headlights a bit more like the TVR Speed 12 would work?

The new shape looks very good.  I think the rear window pillars should be a bit narrower so the rear window doesn't need to be as steep on the outside edges.  There should be some exit vents behind the front wheel arches, imho.

The V12 from the first Neural fits without problems. As this is supposed to be a transaxle configuration, which means front engine and gearbox attached to the rear axle, there should be enough room.

The bonnet intakes are supposed to be a ram air intake into the engine, the ones in the front bumper were meant to be for the radiators. But I'm not to happy with the look of it right now, I guess I will rework quite a lot there.

I thought about making them this way, but it would only work if the front wheel arches were steeper, with this rather flat angle, they'd be hidden quite deep in the body.

Thanks. I've got some ideas for the rear window on my mind, but I have to build them before I decide which one I'll use.

Good point. That would add some spice to the sides. They're definitely coming.

Wow Frag, the changes look fantastic, well done!

Can' t wait to see more tweaks :) So far this is the best looking Neurally car you've made yet. Well IMO anyway!

This is great looking!

Perhaps though with the front lights, just rake them back a bit if you can, or put them under little idvidual glass domes... hard to explain, like a small cover bit between the light and the bottom of the recessed bit where it sits. Just smooth it off a bit.

Love the shape of it.

Much, much, better. The headlights work with that front end now. I likes it.
