You can't put lights on the suspension, it is illegal.  They would move around and change angle and so on.  Vehicles like this would normally use a bar across the front to put them.

Actually, this car was intended to be what the Ford Indigo could have been if they hadn't to include all this crap parts for road legality reasons, like the ugly-as-fuck front bar spoiler thingo...the completely open front wheels would be illegal, too, as well as it would be almost impossible to include rear view mirrors or a windscreen wiper in this design, so the headlights will probably stay there.

I can't see why it should be a problem to put the lights on the suspension anyway, they'll change position and angle compared to the road less than if they're attached to the body.

Indicators aren't done yet, these are only headlights.

They are, it's just not visible from this point of view.

looks amazing mate. And I wouldn't worry about road legality, last time I checked the police in Vice City are more worried about gun crime than unlawful car design..

Do like the idea of a two tone grill though, could work nicely.

Cerbera, you do realise you can't actually use indicators in the game anyway? Also, why be so uneccessarilly (hurrah I can't spell) anal, especially about a fictional car.

I wonder how well it would do in the NCAP crash tests?

But not much better than a Caterham Super 7, I'm afraid...if they ever did a test on a Super 7.

EDIT: tried the two tone grill...looks really good, IMO:

*faints*

I might just come out of handling retirement to get this beasty set up suitably.  Very short suspension travel set to match the positions of the drive shafts and steering assemblies, very rear-biassed traction but with such a light nose it will still be agile.  Those enourmous road tyres plus the killer engine should be a lot of fun. biggrin

Like driving and overpowerd Go Kart. Hehe, do it!

At least you shut up with Poly Counts. Although when it look that good... I can't blame you.

Both Neurals, compared:
http://storm.elxx.net/fragdieb/double_neural.jpg

Work on the 3D model is now completed, it's standing at a polycount of 29500.
Stuff I need to do now:
-Create a custom col file to improve driveability
-select beautiful color schemes
-find a better name than the working title "Little Neural"
-handling? Cerbera, if you want to do this, contact me and I'll provide a download link for you.

Are you going to have a stab at shading the textures at all?  Although you have picked a good material and reflection map (looks like the set from the Comet and Stinger) some shading does make a big difference because GTA has such simply lighting.  As for the handling, throw a link at me and I will sort some handling out for it.  Make sure the wheel dummies are in the right place, aligned onto the axis correctly, the doors are set up, lights in the right place, stuff like that.

Have you made a custom collision file for it yet?  I don't need damage models to do the handling but I do need to work with the correct collision model.

I don't really see a reason to try some shading, as there are no 3D details I want to simulate with a body texture planned. I like the way it looks now, clean, as it's a concept car and probably hadn't time to stand parked in the sun for years to get dirty,, and made of painted carbon fibre or a plastic material rather than metal, as it's intended to be lightweigth.

Col file is done now, dummies are set up correctly, so I'll pm you a link with the stuff you'll need.

Hi Frags,

Is the Blista Compact a good choice of car to replace?  I'd have thought the Cheetah would be better since the big Neural is over the Infernus and the Cheetah has an engine sound which sounds like a smaller MR exotic vehicle.  It also means I could test it in my GTA Rally install and so not need to make a whole new install of Vice to test this car.  The GTA Rally map doesn't extend to any places where the Blista appears much - it took me quarter of an hour to find one!

I think the Cheetah would be a better choice for the replacement.  You could make a Vice Squad Neural to replace "vicechee" if you were feeling keen.  Also, you could make use of the "extras" slots that the Cheetah has, such as the different wing mirror models.  That could be used to give a version with mudguards and windscreen wipers and one which had neither.  Or to give it something more interesting, like some would have the clear engine cover whilst others would have a  solid cover.

Anyway, until you make your decision I'll hold off installing it.  Should "neural2.COL" be renamed to suit the vehicle slot it replaces?

Ben "Cerbera" Millard

The reason you need shaded textures in GTAVC is because the lighting is too simple to show the detail of the bodywork.  Additionally, the materials do not offer any sense of texture; it gives a completely generic surface which makes cars look like they are made from polished ceramics.  You don't have to make the car dirty, the shading on the textures just gives it a better sense of the top being lit by sunlight/moonlight/streetlights while the bottom reflects the darkness of the road.

It also allows you to draw in the detail of where the fittings for the glass doors and engine cover are rather than it just being a featureless edge.  For thing features like the rollbar frames the textures can give the edges better definition and make them seem less like they are floating between the sheets of tinted glass.  Untextured wheel rims always look rather silly because they are right next to the textures of roads, pavements, fields and ramps.

(EDIT) Since the rear spring units are inboard, why not remove the front ones and just have a linkage rod to presumed inboard spring units?  It would save a load of polygons.

Cerbera.... STOP GOING ON ABOUT SAVING POLYS! laugh

That argument has been done already :p Honestly, please. We like detail. It looks cool. Where the hell would those springs go inside, anyway? It looks to small to me.
