| I have finally decided to make another list. Use this thread for helicopter discussion/guide information. Do not spam or abuse it. As we all know, that is already annoying. Hopefully no one will have to ask where helicopters are now.  If you would like to submit some information, please PM me or submit it here!Possible submissions: • "Only available after ..." • More detailed directions • Addition • Correction [ Helicopter Map ] [ Complete Helicopter Guide ] Fort Baxter Air Base Hunter - It is located at the northern part. Only available after you complete Keep Your Friends Close or collect 100 hidden packages. Starfish Island Sea Sparrow - Behind Vercetti Estate. Only available after you collect 80 hidden packages. Maverick - On top of Starfish Island mansion. Downtown Sparrow - Heading north on the main street, take the right street (that goes past the biker bar). Once you see some plants and open space to the left, turn there. There is a flight of stairs. Go up that. Only available after G-Spotlight is complete. Police Maverick - Heading north on the main street, take the left road and when you get to the first street (with the police car), turn right. At the end of the building, turn left. Go up the stairs that are against the building. Always available. VCN Maverick - On the bridge heading towards Prawn Island, from the second island, right where there is the space between the building and the railing, go into the open door. Go up the walkway and there it is. Always available. Maverick - On top of Hyman Condo. Always available. Little Haiti Sparrow - Heading south on the main street, turn right on the street that curves going past Kaufman Cabs. Go straight until you get to the colorful buildings. It is on top of the building with the billboard. Most easily accessible via helicopter. Only available after G-Spotlight is complete. Ocean Beach Sparrow - From the very southern road, go north on the second from the left street until you get to the street right after the Pay 'n' Spray. Turn right there and then turn right at the first opening. Grab the PCJ 600, turn around, go into the alley. Go fast and ramp the stairs and you should land on a pink roof with the helicopter. Only available after G-Spotlight is complete. Hunter - At the very southern part in some plants by a building. Only available after you complete the other specification (as listed above). Vice Point Sparrow - Get to your Links View Apartment. That is east of the north golf course island by the sharp turn. Then head south just a little bit! There is an arched entry way. | Same information as RyanL's post, but in a slightly different arrangement. Mad props to RyanL, the Master of Helicopters, for his help compiling this information. If you see a chopper I've left out, let me know! (Unless otherwise noted, choppers are available from the beginning of the game, provided you can get to them...see the note at the bottom.) Maverick Description: Vanilla 4-seater helicopter. Locations: -On the helipad atop Hyman Condo in Downtown, accessible by a roof-access doorway at ground level after you have purchased the condo for $14,000 or accessible by air via the other choppers at any time -On the helipad atop Vercetti Estate on Starfish Island Vercetti Estate Maverick only available after "Rub Out". (Or possibly "Phnom Penh '86"...can anyone confirm which?) (A Maverick is parked on the last rooftop during the Assassination mission "Loose Ends".) VCPD Maverick Description: 4-seater Maverick with Police paint scheme. No radio (Police radio chatter only). Will not run Vigilante Missions. Location: On the helipad atop the Downtown Police Station, accessible by a stairway in an alley around the back. VCN Maverick Description: 2-seater Maverick with Vice City News paint scheme. No radio (Police Chatter Only). Location: On the helipad atop the Vice City News building Downtown (just over the Prawn Island Bridge), accessible by a roof-access doorway at ground level. Sparrow Description: A simple 2-seater bubble-cockpit chopper. Each begins a different Chopper Checkpoint race when you get in. Locations: Ocean Beach - Atop the 2-story white building with pink roof (where Apartment 3C is located) just southeast of the Ocean Beach Pay-n-Spray Vice Point - In a park area in the center of some condos just east of Links View Apartments (just southeast of the Vice Point Pay-n-Spray) Downtown - Just outside the entrance to the office building where you begin "G-Spotlight", one block north of the Skumole Shack Little Haiti - On a rooftop just northeast of the "Little Haiti - Life's a Beaitch" billboard All 4 Sparrows are only available after completing the Film Studio mission "G-Spotlight" (A Sparrow is provided for your usage during the Film Studio mission "Martha's Mugshot".) Sea Sparrow Description: Same as the Sparrow, except with pontoons for landing on water and a forward-firing minigun with a small degree of auto-aim. Location: Behind Vercetti Estate on Starfish Island Only available after you have collected 80 Hidden Packages Hunter Description: Apache-style attack chopper with a Sea Sparrow-style minigun and forward-firing rockets. Can run Vigilante Missions as "Brown Thunder", and even has all the radio stations. (The radio will always be tuned to VROCK when you first get in.) Locations: -At the far back of Fort Baxter Air Base. Available after gathering 100 Hidden Packages OR completing the mission "Keep Your Friends Close" (Put on a Police Uniform available at the Washington Beach Police Station after completing "Cop Land" to walk into Fort Baxter without being gunned down by soldiers.) -At the South Ocean Beach Helipad. Available after gathering 100 Hidden Packages AND completing the mission "Keep Your Friends Close" RC Raider Description: A chubby-looking radio-controlled toy model of the Hunter, with no weapons, used for the "RC Raider Pickup" mission. Location: Get in the Top Fun van just inside the Escobar International gates near the Vice City International Airport Freight and Cargo Terminal building to begin the mission (You also fly one of these during the Avery Carrington mission "Demolition Man".) Question - What is the earliest I can get my hands on a pilotable chopper without cheating? Answer - There are two answers, actually. #1 - If you play the way the developers intended, you will have access to the second island after completing the mission "Phnom Penh '86". You will then be able to get to the VCPD Maverick, VCN Maverick, and (by using one of those two, or by buying the Hyman Condo) the Hyman Condo Maverick. #2 - Right at the start of the game. My preferred method is to go immediately to the Ocean View Hospital in Ocean Beach and take an ambulance (or kill a pedestrian and wait for the paramedics to appear and take that one). Back the ambulance up to the gates of Pier 1 or Pier 2 at Ocean Bay Marina, then hop on top. A little jumping around should allow you to hop throughover what appears to be a solid gate. From there, grab a boat from the pier, and take it across to the Boat Yard landing ramp at the south end of the next island. From there, you can hop out of the boat, jack a car, and drive north to the three previously-mentioned choppers. These will allow you to collect all of the Hidden Packages and have access to the Sea Sparrow and Fort Baxter Hunter before you even complete a single mission. Unpilotable Choppers: There are a few choppers in the game that show up, but are not pilotable, including: -VCPD Mavericks that chase you when you have 3 or more stars. Will sometimes stop to drop fast-roping SWAT cops to persue you on foot. (Can be shot down with a rocket, sustained assault-riflemachinegun fire, or by sniping the base of the main prop rotor.) -A Maverick flown by Lance Vance during the opening sequence (where his brother is killed in the ambush) -Another Maverick flown by lance during "Phnom Penh '86" -A Maverick (or two?) that drops French special agents onto Cortez's boat during "All Hands On Deck" -A Hunter that assaults the boat during "All Hands On Deck" -A Maverick that delivers the courier during "Hit the Courier" -Sea Sparrow that chases your boat during "Supply and Demand" -The VCPD Maverick that circles the islands regularly (cannot be shot down or crashed into) ------------------  From Code 188: Stick'o'cide |
