Sorry what?

They are bringing back the original shape of the 1960 Camaro's, that can only be a good thing.

I’d rather have re-invented plastic homage to the muscle and exotic cars of old because they simply look great and it means I could conceivably own one.

Now if they would just put that redesigned Miura into production.

All it really is is an overpriced, unaerodynamic marketing tool, and an excuse to not bother making it handle.

You can't compare it with REAL SPORTS CARS guys, IT"S A MUSSEL CAR DHUR

Early fourth gens are growing on me majorly. I think they look really sharp, and not just literally.

Also, that is the concept car with giant wheels, tiny mirrors, and painted on rotors. Here is the production car:

http://www.thetorquereport.com/camaro_convertible_prod.jpg

Picture a really flobbery chassis, with a supremely obsolete shape, and a price tag high enough to scare off all high school footballers and cheerleaders- all it's bread and butter V6 buyers really- vomit some styling onto it that has NO INFLUENCE FROM ANY CAMARO OF THE PAST FORTY YEARS, all designed by some marketing men and accountants sitting around a table in a big fancy boardroom in a crumbling city full of crackheads.

OH. And don't put the classic Camaro badge anywhere on it at all.

It's a "retro" car for people who don't know anything about the past of the Camaro.

I guess I was being naive, but there was a time when I actually had hopes that GM would have the foresight to built a quality product, instead of a soulless Happy Meal of a cash cow.

I know this is a crude photoshop, but it's the idea that matters- I was hoping the front end would look something like this:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/irocz0r/heritage.jpg

Sort of really accentuate the lines of the fourth gen into a truly beautiful shape, modernizing the lines of the second gens:

The last good looking Camaro was the late 60s one. No wonder they chose that to influence the new design.

The new one looks good. It's the least of GM's worries right now..

VW are the kings of this game...

Beetle, nice.

New Beetle, WRONG.

I saw a Karmann Ghia in a VW magazine with Polo or something headlights on it, it looked great, they should release it exactly like that...

And the award for most revolutionary redesign goes to Pors... oh wait.

Seriously, I wonder if the designers at Porsche every get bored? Oh good we get to do another 911. So let's dig out the old plans and erm, finished then?

I love old Mustangs. There's a guy who drives a white 73 Mach 1 around town and it is comically huge, utterly silly and completely lovable. You'd always find it parked up, dwarfing every other car around it.

Funny, the Mustang story is exactly what happened to the Escort... First two, great, everything after, ouch.

For the past 10 years All Porsche’s have looked identical: they can slap new headlights on the 2008 models and call it retro but it’s just not.

But as long as you ignore all Porsches apart from the 911 model then you won’t find an ugly one in the bunch.

The first generation Camaro is a brilliant looking car and the 3rd generation is quite the looker to: sleek, low, sporty. The 2nd generation being the worst.  Especially the late 70’s models that look like the front of a train complete with cow catcher: YOU KNOW THIS IS TRUE AJ.

I will however grant you that the 2009 plastic Camaro is for a casual market rather then for enthusiasts and that is a shame: if only they put a big engine in it and put it up against the GTO.

Because lets face it if the PT cruiser came with a V8 it would be praised as a modern day muscle car.  Everyone would ignore the fact its complete rubbish because it looks like it came from the 60’s and has a big engine.

I'll agree that the orange '79 "King Cobra" edition is a horrible looking monstrosity, but that's only because they tried to make it look butch and American.

Did you know that the '79 Mustang was the first Ford to EVER have a slanted grille? Every Ford up until this point had a completely upright grille. It was a bold departure from everything Ford had done before, and a bold departure from that fat luxury pig the Mustang had become. It was made to be a REAL sports car, which I have great respect for.

Like I said, at the time, the looks were radical and sporty, but in retrospect it is completely bland. But by the late 80's and early 90's, it looked FANTASTIC. With new ground effects, a fastback body style, and huge freaking power, it's was and is a simply a fantastic sports car.

They're SMALL, they handle great, and it's very easy to get HUGE power out of them.

Albeit, I am, inexplicably, in a minority. Most people hate the Fox Mustangs of the 80's. But Fox Mustangs are the ONLY Mustangs I like.

Also, I don't really "like" them, but I do respect the '94 to '04 Mustangs and think they look good, hardly "drive it off a cliff". Definitely respect them infinitely more than the new ones.

Didn’t the “drive it off a cliff” model come in a special edition were you had to have a racing licence to buy it?  You have to admit that’s peaty cool.

It still looked like a used condom.  I.e, a bag of wank.

Dodge Chargers, Oh yeah, 60's and 70's ones, complete sex.

Whos fucking idea was it to make it a 4 door? Seriously "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" happened there?

Eesh.

And yeah, the Bini looks stupid. Raping a perfectly good car *sniff*

Yeah, I was purely going on the looks of things, what with it being about design and not how they drive. Lets face it, regardless of handling, speed, blah blah blah, a lot of those Mustangs do look shit, especially that 93 model.
