Ok, if this turns out any good it may get released. I could also do with the San Andreas plugin for Zmod.

Yeh, I know it is early and not quite perfect, but how does it look so far? The front pillar needs straightening a bit I know, but can you tell what it is from this pic? Is the shape on?

You hit the shape quite good, but that mesh looks rather messy. You should really clean it up a bit, otherwise you might get heavy reflection and normal problems.
Is it still flat on the pic or already 3D?

Fixed the meshg up a bit! Lost a few pointless polys that were making it hard to get looking right, also lost the fuel filler cap, figure I can just texture that one on. Not being a master of high poly models myself. Also did the headlight, bonnet etc, gonig to do the grille when it isn't 4.00 am. Looks like it could require a bit of fidly detail. Thankfully Lada's site (Lada is called VAZ in Russia) has all round pictures. Woo for VAZ! www.lada-auto.ru/

I might even make one of the 2107's, as the only difference I can see is it has a chrome grille. Extra 1? :p

Edit: Think Cerb would want to do the handling on this? laugh
Edit 2: I am too tired. If anyone can find any bloody interior pics, you win a big, fat, award of somesort. Go now!

The mesh is looking a lot tidier now.  Perhaps the indicator should be textured instead of modelled?  That would save some polys.  Save them at every opportunity because they really do add up.  GTASA is so demanding on system resources that modelling efficiently is more important now than it was in GTA3, imho.

It isn't 3D, it is only two polys! Jeebus!

I took out the Fuel filler for texturing, it was just an arse making it look good, so I didn't.

The front lights will be 3D. Because it is more relistic and better looking, like the real thing. The Grille is going to be a bitch. Grr. I don't want to texture it as it will just look shit. But it is going to be a bit difficult to model.

GTA3 didn't matter as it was that badly programmed it would lag for no reason at times, then acceletare to 300 FPS or more. Then I put the limiter on. SA is more demanding thanks to sevral new effects added in for the PC release... so much nicer to look at!

The problem is that if you want the indicator only as a texture, you'll need a rather high resolution body texture to make it look good, which is a performance killer as well.

Yeah, and textures are more of a strain on the system than the amount of polygons. To be honest, if you're running SA at the reccomended specs, 8k pollies is more than acceptable. This model is nowhere near that, so having a 10 pollie 3D indecator with a small seperate texture will more than suffice, just like R* do really.

For textures, the bfx's onboard RAM is used to store the ones in use, whereas pollies are mathematically created by the GPU alone almost. RAM to GPU etc etc... bigger process than rendering a polygon.

Something like that, but when down to the game, you just need a good balance of pollies and good textures.

I've actually done some work! The rear end is hard... having already done the front. Couple o' Images today, kiddies. Now I am getting near to doing the inside, I *really* need all the help I can get on interior pics of this thing. I can only find dashboard ones so far.

Making progress - one problem. Anyone got a Zmod plugin for San Andreas? I have the old version, 1.07b... is there a 1 plugin out there?

There's no SA DFF plugin for zmod 1.07 available. So you'll have to get at least ZMod 2.04, that comes with a San Andreas plugin, unfortunately, the unregistered version can't import files, you can open files from Zmod1 though.

It looks so small. And one last point. The hood opens the wrong way.. is that possible? cause it works on the SA tractor.

The REVERSE_BONNET setting in the ModelFlags setting of the GTASA handling.cfg file allows the bonnet object to rotate in the opposite direction to normal.  You might find my CFG Studio handling editor for GTA3/VC/SA easier to use that the others which are around.
