Hey. Started a new car. I'm doing a foundation degree in animation and games art for the next two years so I thought I should at least try and remember something about 3d modelling before I start learning how to use maya from an ex-alias guy.

Anyway, just had a vague idea for a car which I thought I'd have a go at. I've spent about 4 hours ish on it so far, most of that was trying to get the normals about, well normal. Bastard things. nearly there with them, just not sure how the crimp next to the front and rear wings will look after texture.

I'm really happy with the back end, I think the teardrop shape works quite well.

Obviously it's Elise type car inspired.

List of things to do (except the obvious)..
- headlights. tried a few different designs, not found one I'm happy with yet.
- engine for the middle of the teardrop.
- interior.
- new wheels (those are from the AR1)

and a few other tweaks. I've detached the parts and all that crap, though still not decided if I want bumpers or not.

thoughts?

oh yeah, the pic:

danke.

Very sexy, but I think the ars end where the brakelights go should be a little more defined, at the moment it looks like a Mitsubishi eclipse - bad. The back pillars streaking back is sex, are you going to leave it open or have glass over it?

can't you put the engine in the frount sad

I really like the rounded back end and tailights actually.

Ofcourse, the top is very MR2-ish, which I'm not really into, but its still nice.

One thing I noticed is that the windscreen frame looks very thin and weak.

What are you planning for the headlights?

Nice!
It's looks sleek, can't wait to see the final version.

How about making it look futuristic by using invisible wheels, so that it looks like it's flying?

Wouldn't it be nice to drive in the car that you have created in Z-molder, instead of the player to have all the fun? Too bad most of us can not afford a 3D printer (actually they do exist).

It is just me because it seems that the wheels are little too big though.

Azz, I really hope you leave that tear drop bare like that, covering it in glass or adding a engine would just clutter it.

Looks quite good, although the front is a bit to clumsy for  my taste, I think it could be a bit lower there. The teardrop shape is really sleek, and the back looks quite good, it would remind me of a Renault Spider if the car hadn't a windscreen. But you definitely need something else than those wheels, 5-spokes are something you can't put on any car anymore because every ricer kid's got them.

heya. cheers for all the great feedback folks, lots to think on.

Actually enjoying making this, which is a rarity for 3d modelling for me, usually find it really frustrating.

Anyway I've done a few bits and bobs but not enough to warrant a new preview yet.

The rear end I like so I'm keeping it big and chunky. The rear light clusters have changes slightly, just hoping when I skin them I can get what I want.

I've sorted the front lights. I tried all sorts of shapes (including a rather nice figure of 8 that turned out toss), but decided to keep it simple. Basically the two faces that look like they should be pop ups (yeah, tried that too) are the top pane, then the two in front at the fronts, then inside are two bulbs in each side. Should look ok I think.

The rear teardrop is staying pretty much intact. What is currently (in that pic) the flat "bed" of the drop is going to be a vented engine cover. Anyone know if it's possible to have the boot dummy not revolve after an accident? if not I'll use a rear wing to get rid of that to reveal the engine I've yet to model.

I'm doing a few extra options, one includes a rear window for the teardrop, another is the hard top I've just finished modelling.

Couple of things. Firstly if anyone has any suggestions for the rims I'm open to suggestions. Preferably something easy to model of course lol. There are some really nice white five spokes I've seen, but not sure.

Same goes for sports seats. Not something I've ever looked at so suggestions are appreciated.

Got a few ideas to make the interior follow the shape and flow of the outside, we'll see how that goes.

It would look good with a bumper on the rear, moulded to the body. For rims, the Infinity G35 7-spokes are nice.

yes they are nice!

BTW: it's spell Infiniti not Infinity.

Azz, do you like the 7-spokes rims?

Will this car you are creating have both a rear wheel drive and a AWD (All wheel drive) version?

You can change that yourself in the handling.cfg file.

another pic.

Done a bit more on it. Still got the engine and rims to do, as well as minor things like a steering wheel and gear stick and so on. Interior is a bit of a rush job so I think I'll tweak, happy with the seats though.

The small pic has the two extras I've done so far added..

Hmm, is it going to be rear engined? I would love to see an engine under that little rear bit. The headlights suit it well though. Full marks.
