| With the release of GTA:SA just around the corner it's important that the board is running efficiently. Therefore one of the measures taken was to delete 2000 inactive accounts. The list of accounts was automatically generated based on the following criteria: - The last visited time must be on or before 31st March 2004. - The account must not be an administrator or moderator. - The account must have less then 18 posts. This resulted in exactly 2000 accounts being deleted. This will have several benefits to the boards: - Speed improvements. Everything uses the members table so this will improve the speed of queries and mean pages are delivered to you faster. - More usernames are available to the people who will arrive here when GTA:SA is released. You can view the complete list of deleted accounts. A complete backup of all 2697 member accounts was created before the deletion. If you had an account that was deleted and you would like it restored, send an e-mail to Icey with your user name and number. All data for your account will be written back in, like signature data, title, post count and so on. Thank you. If there are any queries, post them below. ------------------  |

| I think people with multiple accounts should be allowed to come clean and ask for them to be removed. After checking to make sure that they really are the owner of the other account(s) it/they could be removed without fear of reproach. That way names would be freed up, database size reduced AND people who made multiple accounts wouldn't feel like criminals and would therefore be less likely to act like ones. (EDIT) I notices something pretty amazing which has been caused by the member deletion: My Profile wrote: Posts: 978 (Forum Average: 113) Average posts per user are now over 100! | [busted name change] Actually, it was Valdez that changed your name, you should thank him You can see who last edited your profile by viewing your profile. [deleted vets] Some of the first 100 accounts had never been used, so they were just wasting space and slowing down queries. There's no sense in keeping accounts that have never been used. As mentioned previously (several times) people can always contact me and have their account restored to the state it was before deletion. Several people have, theres no reason why others can't. [iceys test robot] My administrator account has a lot of extra priviledges and differences, so sometimes I just need a regular account for testing. That's why the test account is their. For example, when I need to check hidden users are only appearing for higher level accounts, or to check that banning works, or to check post flooding, etc, etc. It's called a "robot" so it doesn't appear that I have a personal slave who checks everything for me, I have you lot for that! Calling it a robot and not a user means there's less chance anyone will PM that account expecting a response. I could just give it a random name, but since I sometimes temp ban it and make it into a moderator I don't want another mod/admin getting worried because of strange activity from that account. At least with that name it's clear what it's for. The account must have met the criteria for deletion (less than 18 posts, not used in ages, etc). I'll restore it later. His real name is Sedrick, btw. ------------------ |
