Saw an interesting article in the paper today. Of course when I say "the paper" it's in a So I Married an Axe Murderer Weekly World News kind of way, since it was in the Metro. But anyway I digress.

The article (short one it was):

"PS2 game 'drove boy to murder'
A teenager was beaten and stabbed to death by a boy copying scenes from an ultra-violent PlayStation 2 game, the victim's parents said yesterday.
Stefan Pakeerah, 14, was attacked with a knife and a clawhammer by a 17-year-old who became obsessed with Manhunt. After the killer admitted murder, Stefan's parents called for a ban on the game, in which players score bonus points by making their slayings more violent."

I mean honestly where do you even start with that? Ignoring it's the kids parents calling for the ban (since we all need scapegoats, heaven forbid we live in a world populated by evil shites), the guy is 17. This means he's old enough to make his own decisions regarding these things. That's not my own sentiment, that is drawn from the ESRB content rating "Mature", which obviously Manhunt is.

I always have struggled to see the link between obviously disturbed people killing people and violent computer games. I just spent the last half hour chopping heads of with a katana, and even IN SPITE of the fact that I live in Doncaster, where we have some of the most uncouth down right obnoxious people on Earth, I'm not feeling any urge to run up and down the streets hacking people into itty bitty pieces.

Another one I read the other day is about the rise in STD's and how the education system is failing. And who is saying this? The parents. "Hey, it's your responsibility to teach our child how to be a mature human, now get on with it". I swear, you need a license for a tv, but they let these people breed like it was some kind of god given right. I despair, I really do.

Not only is the world full of evil shites, it's full of complete wastes of oxygen too.

Still, gotta smile, right?

The world will become a dismal place not due to war, capitalism or corrupt foreign policy. But instead a mass of twits and wankers will be unleashed onto the world contributed to shite parenting.

Yah?

A study recently revealed that, when placed under stress, children reached sexual maturity at a much earlier age than children who had a happy upbringing (this is a natural survival of the species thing for times of extreme crisis, when good ol' mum nature thinks that these kids might not live long, so best get em started early). This means that people are becoming "adults" before they have properly matured, making them exceedingly deficient in seemingly commonsense values, such as "be nice to people", or "don't attack other kids with clawhammers."
Like most people of my generation, I was raised by two loving parents and television. But what programmes I watched and how long I watched them was closely scrutinised by my mother, and I still spent the hours before sunset playing outside.
Kids these days can't play outside unsupervised because there are no end of people willing to take them aside and do unspeakable things to them - a fact about which television is only too delighted to remind us on a regular basis. So instead, the kids stay inside, watch television. Does this perhaps have something to do with high stress levels? Hm.
According to television, the world outside of kids homes is no longer a place filled with wonder and adventure, but filled with terrorists and horror and dead bodies laying in dusty streets. News broadcasts frequently show increasingly explicit scenes of death and violence, scenes that cannot be avoided by not watching the news, as "news breaks" during commercials sandwich "more senseless bloodshed in middle east" between "church offers explanation of crying statue" and "plus the latest in footy; can <sportsperson x> recover from his hamstring injury in time for the big game against <sportsteam y>?"
There was violence before though, right? Yeah, but never as much as is shown now. And increasingly without warning. Back in the day, you never even saw a sad bunny-rabbit crying on the news without the disclaimer "the following contains footage which may disturb some viewers". Dead bodies were never shown, except on the very most uber edgy we're-serious-and-we're-wearing-our-serious-face-to-prove-it style current affairs programmes, and then only with the most long-winded warnings and disclaimers known to journalistic man, just to further prove how serious they were.

Anyway, I've rambled on too long and lost my point long ago, as per normal.

Yes and no; not completely due to war, capitalism and corrupt foreign policy (after all, these three have been around for as long as homo sapiens have walked the earth), although these factors surely play their part. It will become (has become??) "a dismal place" due to the way in which these things are reported by the mass media.  That, and shite parenting.

Makes you wonder where Rockstar (unofficially) stand on this sort of press. I mean remember when GTA1 was released they used Max Clifford to cause a scandal to enhance the demand for the game..

Let me just say, I am amazed at peoples stupidity sometimes, not only are kids today, even those older than me, stupid enough to go out and kill their friends with various kitchen utensils and garden tools, but their parents are also stupid enough to go blaming a videogame for the lack of parental care they've given their offspring.

The world will end due to wankers and morons, there is no doubt about it, or some really smart guy that makes robots intelligent enough to kill all stupid humans, leaving about 500 or so to go hide in a cave for all eternity.

Azz, quit posting your doomsday scenarios and start reviewing. Or at least, cut me a set of keys for the GTA1 carmanager.

Damn right we do, it's one of the few places on Earth where it's customary to be greeted with a snarl, a punch in the face and a kick in the ribs...

I was working the day after the incident was made public and the manager came down and said that we weren't allowed to sell Manhunt until further notice. Now I'm not a big fan of the game but actually taking the game off the shelves just because someone pointed a finger, now that's daft.

What next? Lets blame GTA for a 15 year old chav for racing round on his scrambler bike shooting peoples with his BB gun? Or Microsoft Train Simulator for all these rail accident's we've being having. Or even Super Mario Sunshine for a fat moustached Italian guy wearing dungarees and a red cap trying to squeeze down his toilet?

It's not the games that cause these 'incidents', the people have to be naturally psychotic. Media is just the catalyst. Would you remove your furniture and curtains from your living room because if a fire broke out, they could make it worse? No, you would try and prevent the fire in the first place. After all, prevention is better, bla bla bla. Games and films have age ratings for a reason and it's the parent's responsibility to monitor their children's behaviour. If their child is easily influenced, buy them Barbie's Horse Riding or whatever not Hitman.

Until the masses can understand that, then gamers and games in general are going to suffer.

Soon enough people will blame bad results in the world-cup on a 13 year old that sucks at the latest Fifa game.

Everyone needs a scapegoat, golfers had the sun in their eyes, footballers had their briefs put on backwards and teen-psychopaths have videogames.

That's sad, next time the ESRB could add one extra requirement to a "M" rated game. (People with a case of mental illness[es], or mind malfunction[s], may not buy this game).  This is a dark cruel world.

Let's be more specific here - people are unwilling to take responsibility for their own actions.

Living in Michigan, you see this most any day the temperature outside is below freezing.  The <insert interesting expletive here> in their SUVs are driving fifteen (mph) over the limit when there's sheet ice on the ground, while the few sane crawl at twenty under the limit.  It isn't too surprising that several SUVs end up in ditches or on top of other cars or somewhere else that they shouldn't be all in the name of four wheel drive superiority that allows said drivers to neglect "driving for conditions".  Furthermore, normal, sane people died in collisions with said vehicles.  The said drivers claimed they "hit slippery spots" or something similarly benign, so they couldn't be at fault for maiming, killing, or otherwise injuring someone else.  In turn, the state of Michigan was "considering" increasing funding for additional winter road maintenance too reduce those fatalities which could have been avoided anyways.

So now I pay more money to a government to encourage more idiots to run people over because they think they can.

      <end rant>

Seriously, the world is a joke. I mean, the media choose to ignore the fact the kid wasn't old enough to buy the game, so its his bastard parents fault for buying it for him, with little knowledge of what it is. I mean come on, thats maternal deprivation right there. and as for the fact that the kid was a druggie, and the victim was as well, as they both were high as nigger pie when it went on, I think the media are pretty...... well, FUCKING RETARDED

      grrrrrrrr annoyed
      I'm really pissed off now
