| Greetings, I have returned for just long enough to make some updates to the forum. I've modifed/changed the following things: You can now set your current time in the edit profile page. This means you can have times that are suitable for your time zone. The board layout is virtually all constructed using CSS layout techniques. This means faster loading times for you, easier maintanance for us and less bandwidth is being used. Topic dates are now displayed on the forums page. Messages from banned members are now hidden unless you click a link to show them. You can disable signature images by selecting the option in your profile. Spoiler boxes now show up in white when you move your mouse over them. No need to select the text any more. Topic and post numbers are now properly decremented when topics/posts are deleted. Few improvements to various admin/moderator functions. Javascript functions have been removed from the pages and placed inside an external javascript file thats linked to all pages. This way your browser should only download it once and it should be cached afterwards. Small changes to the layouts of polls. Admins/mods can now see who voted anonymously on polls. Made a couple of minor changes to the admin/moderator control panels. The list of previous posts displayed when posting a reply now has a maximum length instead of displaying the whole post. You can view the topics created by members by clicking the "show topics" link in their profile or below their posts. Fixed a bug with the "submit" button being disabled if you post an invalid message and then returned to the form. Added a couple more options to the temp ban form. Two weeks/one month/etc. Previewing a message in the PM page shows the message in the same browser window, not a new one. Previewing new topics and replies is also done in the same browser window and not a new one. Spell checker is fixed. The info box which displays the log out, switch user etc links is the correct height in Opera now. Fixed some errors with links when showing the online users on the main page. All php files are now properly structured and I even added some comments (wow!). If you edit a message within five minutes of posting it the "edit message" text wont be displayed. Added a link to mark all the forums as read because most people don't know how to do that. You can now specify various image tag properties. For example the flag image has "align=left" on it. You can also use things like border, width, height and so on. I'm trusting you not to abuse that The members page allows you to show all members with names starting with numbers and symbols. IP address logging is now fixed. There are a few other changes that I've forgotten about. Make sure you tell me about any errors you encounter on the forums. I've started rewriting the CSS files. I've just done the default theme and kreyz's theme. There is also a new "blues" theme which I used for testing the new CSS files. This means the other themes aren't available, if you're not using these you should automatically be using the default one instead. I've been using Opera to preview the site as I changed things around so it will definutely work in that browser Let me know if there are any problems. All users can reply to the announcements forum. ------------------ ![]() |

| I love it Icey. It scared me at first when I noticed some differences, but then I PM'd you and I was told everything was ok. Nice job. Edit: The 'Mark Forum as Read' link isn't clearing the forum like it should. |

| Your browser is probably loading the cached version of the page and therefore the dates aren't being changed. I added a random number to the end of the address, that should stop your browser loading the cached version. If it doesn't: Make sure you have bookmarked forums.gouranga.com/iceyboard/ and not forums.gouranga.com/iceyboard/?ibaction=main - This is done so if you visit a forum and then go back to the main page all the updates wont be lost. ------------------ ![]() |

| The server seems to be running about 19 minutes behind the standard timezones hours (according to world clocks) so I've temporarily added 19 minutes to all times displayed since I can't edit the server time. ------------------ ![]() |

Also, are you still fixing things? I can't see any forum! | Ahhh, that's undocumented feature, actually. Spoiler: What it really means is that I missed a bracket in the server hundred lines of code in that file. So it's gonna take me four years to find it... *distracts everyone with the new automatically revealing spoiler tags!* ------------------ ![]() |

| Typical missing a bracket in the worst possible place! Right between the maths for calculating the posts per pages/page numbers to display and whether to display data as a normal forum or a member forum. Right, it should be fixed now. ------------------ ![]() |

| You're all a lot nicer to me now than when I started writing this forum I'll try to get a couple of the popular themes written in tomorrow. They take a while to convert over and I wanted to get the new features running before I spent ages rewriting all of those. ------------------ ![]() |

| Damn library computers don't allow viewing source. Some things I've noticed are there's no "hand" style for the mouseover on the similies. Also, the box that they are stored in with the drop-down lists isn't displaying a top or left border. Shouldn't the little puppy be displayed on the default skin? When I viewed a PM I received, it just made a hugely wide cell to display the message rather than wrapping the text. Attaching posts still wipes out the contents of the message textbox, which will no catch out the unwary. Also, the cells which display the posts which are attached to the new post screen spill out off the right hand edge of the page...I'm guessing I don't think the attached posts should have a character limit. The whole point of attaching them is so you can read what people have said, quote from them or re-produce the images that have been used from all those threads for your own post. The "Message:" label beside the textbox where the post message is typed is aligned to the bottom edge of the box rather than the top, which isn't standard interfacing AFAIK. Great to see the post preview loads up in the new post page instead of making a new one now. The five-minute edit thing is a neat idea, but for people like me who normally spend quarter of an hour on thier posts because they are writing several at once, it maybe isn't so helpful? As a style comment on the default scheme, I think the HR elements should be black rather than the pale blue they are. Makes the scheme seem unbalanced having them as a shade imho, especially when the signature divider is black. Perhaps that should be an HR as well? This is all in IE6 sp.2 on Windows XP using the default scheme. (EDIT) I notice that you're still using the crazy TOP link I suggested after some folks reported problems with the "#top" method. Well, I think I PM'ed you about this, but basically if you do it like this: Code: <a name="top"></a> It will work fine. I think the problem was you had the link pointing to the name of the page, with the "#top" index added on which made the browser load the page and then the label, rather than just do the label..... <a href="#top">Top</a> (EDIT2) In the "User Profiles" view, the bottom bar displays the first two levels of the path correctly, but the third is set as something like "Invalid user/Deleted user" which is a bit disturbing. Good job on the post and topic listings for each user. (EDIT 3) In the "Edit Profile" form, the page width seems to have a minimum of around 1000pixels wide which is no use for folks who have to be using public computers because they always use super-low desktop sizes so everything is huge for the old folks to see. ------------------ (Grand Theft Auto Handling Editor | GTA Tutorials) |

| Normal : Cerbera - Bold : Icey Some things I've noticed are there's no "hand" style for the mouseover on the similies. Fixed. Also, the box that they are stored in with the drop-down lists isn't displaying a top or left border. That's intentional. Because the box is in the corner I thought it would be nice to not have the border on the sides that are next to borders. Shouldn't the little puppy be displayed on the default skin? Indeed it should. The themes are in a different directory so it must be linking to the wrong place. Yes, it's linking to images/doggie.gif and it should be ../images/doggie.gif now. Fixed. When I viewed a PM I received, it just made a hugely wide cell to display the message rather than wrapping the text. Yeah, I just noticed that. I've made a temporary fix but I'll sort it properly in a moment. Edit: Fixed. Attaching posts still wipes out the contents of the message textbox, which will no catch out the unwary. That's why I added the review topic link. You can always press the back button though. I assume once people see that clicking the "attach posts" links reload the page they know from then on. So they would only do that once and then if they do want to see the extra posts they can click the link before writing. Also, the cells which display the posts which are attached to the new post screen spill out off the right hand edge of the page... Yes, I need to work on the text wrapping. Edit: Fixed. I'm guessing I don't think the attached posts should have a character limit. The whole point of attaching them is so you can read what people have said, quote from them or re-produce the images that have been used from all those threads for your own post. Hmmm I think there purpose is to just have a basic understanding of what happened. I think if people really want to see everything they could just keep the topic open. Which I why I wanted links and not buttons for replying. But everyone else wanted buttons, silly people! The "Message:" label beside the textbox where the post message is typed is aligned to the bottom edge of the box rather than the top, which isn't standard interfacing AFAIK. It's at the top in Opera and at the bottom in IE. Get a better browser :P Seriously though, I'll see if I can "fix" that in a moment. Edit: Fixed. Great to see the post preview loads up in the new post page instead of making a new one now. Yes, it works a lot better like this. The five-minute edit thing is a neat idea, but for people like me who normally spend quarter of an hour on thier posts because they are writing several at once, it maybe isn't so helpful? I added it because people often spot spelling mistakes in posts and then edit them to fix them. There isn't any need to add the edit message for that. It's purpose it to show when a message has been changed a significant amount of time after it was posted. So I think it works fine as it is. What would you suggest instead? As a style comment on the default scheme, I think the HR elements should be black rather than the pale blue they are. Makes the scheme seem unbalanced having them as a shade imho, especially when the signature divider is black. Perhaps that should be an HR as well? Those aren't hr elements but I've made them black to show you how it would look. I suppose they are fine either way, originally I just wanted to keep all the parts of the post more together. This is all in IE6 sp.2 on Windows XP using the default scheme. Get Opera! <a href="#top">Top</a> It uses javascript to scroll up the page actually. Like this: Code: <a onClick="javascript:scroll(0,0);>TOP</a> It works fine in Opera and Internet Explorer. Maybe you have javascript disabled? (EDIT2) In the "User Profiles" view, the bottom bar displays the first two levels of the path correctly, but the third is set as something like "Invalid user/Deleted user" which is a bit disturbing. Can you give me a link/screenshot/more detail. I'm not entirely sure I follow what you're saying. Good job on the post and topic listings for each user. Thought it would be useful for keeping track of peoples own posts and see if they need to reply to topics. Also useful for seeing what other people have done. Useful to me as an admin because I can check all the posts they have made when people start moaning at me about being banned. (EDIT 3) In the "Edit Profile" form, the page width seems to have a minimum of around 1000pixels wide which is no use for folks who have to be using public computers because they always use super-low desktop sizes so everything is huge for the old folks to see. At my college we have windows xp and 1152*864 resolution! But I shall fix that in just a moment. Edit: Fixed. ------------------ ![]() |
